Fall-winter 2014-2015 East Feast Project Selected! On June 1st a group of people joined for the annual East Feast event where there was fine food, entertainment and presentations of the 3 projects that were shortlisted. Cindy Mateusch from posAbilities and my daughter Shannon Campbell presented my project "Art Outside of Ourselves" and did an expert job as it was chosen by the attendees.
The FEAST funding will enable a group of artists with developemental disabilities from "Alternatives Creations Studio" in East Vancouver along with community members to take an imaginative journey to and from Vancouver, BC and Southwest France without leaving the art studio. I will lead art workshops in both locations in which the participants will create "mail art" (postcard sized, two dimensional artworks). The mail art will be exchanged wtih community members and artists with developmental disabilities from the "A deux mains" studio in Valence d'Agen, France.
The project will take place in fall and winter, more news to follow. I hope that you'll be able to join us.

Juin - June 2013 - Auvillar, France"Bon vent" Un projet de fresque élaboré par l'artiste Cheryl Fortier et les élèves de la classe de CM2 de l'école d'Auvillar.
"Bon vent" A community mural project developed by Cheryl with the CM2 students of Auvillar Elementary School and the help of many community members.
The force behind Cheryl Fortier’s work comes from the raw yet gentle energy of the land and sea: at once peaceful and threatening, familiar and exotic. In the spaces between the experiences of the wild and the din of a city studio, a tension is manifest. In her studio Cheryl works to compress and magnify these tensions creating acrylic on canvas paintings that resonate with the power of nature.Cheryl’s paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Canada and in France and she is represented in private collections in North America, France and the U.K. Deeply committed to making art a part of people’s lives, Cheryl teaches, acts as juror, mentor and has been involved in diverse community mural projects in hospitals, restaurants and public spaces.
Cheryl spends summers in Southwest France where she is currently the Resident Director for The Virginia Center for Creative Arts at their facility in Auvillar. Her studio is in the Mergatroid Building in East Vancouver.
